Driving at Night and the Dangers

Driving at night is much more risky than driving during the day – mainly because your visibility is greatly reduced from what it used to be compared to when you drive during the day. Night driving also poses a threat to drivers and animals as many nocturnal animals often come out at night seeking food, only to wind up colliding with vehicles that are traveling at great speeds.

If you have a choice between driving at night versus driving during the day, opt to drive during the day when you can. Driving during the day will save you the trouble and the hassle of having to deal with the inherent dangers that present themselves after the sun goes down. Additionally, nighttime driving can be dangerous to those of us who are by ourselves because of the risk that other human predators present. Too often, you will hear a news story about a single woman being taken advantage of or attacked when walking to her car at night. Not too long ago, it came out in the news that another man posed as a police officer and then pulled a woman over in her car just so that he could attack her.

Not all things related to night driving are bad, however. In fact, many people prefer to drive at night because there are significantly less vehicles on the roadway then. Additionally, when you are the road and there are less vehicles around, you are not forced to apply your brakes quite as often, which can help to save you a lot of money in gasoline expenses for your vehicle. However, if you are planning on making a long road trip from one place to another and you are stuck between deciding to leave at night in order to avoid traffic versus leaving during the day so that you can sleep in, always opt for the latter. It is better to begin a lengthy road trip once you are well rested and are able to focus on what is going on around you.

Depending on the area of the country that you live in, it can sometimes be equally as dangerous to drive during the day. We hear stories all the time about people becoming involved in motor vehicle accidents. Part of this has to do with the fact that many areas are overly congested while the other factor is usually because as drivers, we are too distracted by gadgets and other devices in our vehicles.
